Iran foreign ministry calls for patience as nuclear talks continue

19 Nov 2014 - 17:08

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham called for patience commenting on nuclear talks in Vienna.

VIENNA, November 19 (Sputnik) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham called for patience Wednesday as negotiations concerning Iran's nuclear program continue in Vienna.

"Let's be patient. Negotiations continue," Afkham told Sputnik news agency.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian negotiators in Vienna already held meetings with the representatives of Germany and Russia, expecting to meet next the French delegation and later US representatives.

The final round of Tehran's talks with the P5+1 group, including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, began in Vienna on Tuesday. The talks are aimed at reducing the scope of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions imposed on the country.

Iran has been accused by the West of attempting to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of a peaceful nuclear program, while Tehran claimed that its nuclear program was created to meet Iran's growing energy needs.

During talks in Geneva in November 2013, the P5+1 group agreed to reach a deal with Iranian authorities guaranteeing the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program by July. The deadline for the agreement was later extended to November 24.
