Molaverdi outlines feats of women’s department

12 Nov 2014 - 12:36

Tehran, Nov 11, IRNA - The Presidential Office’s Department for Women and Family signed six agreements with various organizations in the year ending March 2014.
Speaking in a meeting with members of women parliamentarians on Tuesday, Shahindokht Molaverdi, the head of the department, said based on Article 230 of Fifth Economic Development Plan (2010-15), the department should sign contracts with other organizations on 14 issues outlined by the plan.
Molaverdi noted that the drafts of 10 agreements will be signed with various organizations and ministries, such as education, agricultural jihad, cooperatives and labor, in the year ending March 2015.

“The agreements were signed to support women breadwinners and those who quit drug addiction, provide food supplements to pregnant women and distribute hygienic packages among girl students living in less developed areas.

Molaverdi said according to the cabinet’s decision, the Women’s Department of Interior Ministry is in charge of drafting the National Document on Security of Women and Children.

She added that the Interior Ministry recently held a three-day workshop on the issue in Ramsar, Mazandaran province.

“The department has presented a bill to the government on the establishment of a national center for protecting women against violence,” she said, pointing out that at present the government’s social commission is scrutinizing it.

Molaverdi said a number of meetings have been held with officials of Social Security Organization of Iran on insuring housewives, for which correspondence has been made with First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.

Earlier, Molaverdi said women’s economic and political empowerment will be crucial for meeting the targets of the 20-Year Vision Plan.

Underlining women’s influential role in sustainable development of the country, she expressed dissatisfaction with the small share of women in the society and said it is disproportionate with their role.

“Though Iran has a more suitable condition compared to other countries in terms of development indices such as education and health, more efforts need to be made with regard to empowering women and increasing progress in various domains,” she said.
