MP urges Lebanon govt. to accept Iran military aid

11 Nov 2014 - 11:26

A prominent Hezbollah lawmaker has called on the Lebanese government to accept Iran’s offer of military aid to counter security threats posed by Israel and Takfiri terrorism.
Nawaf Musawi said Monday that the West will never provide Lebanon with sophisticated weaponry because that could endanger Israel.

Iran has offered to provide the Lebanese army with advanced military equipment and arms.

Lebanese Defense Minister Samir Moqbel recently visited Iran to discuss the proposed aid.

In September, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said in Beirut that Tehran would provide the necessary military equipment to the Lebanese army for the fight against terror.

Over the past months, Lebanon has been suffering from terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda-linked militants as well as random rocket attacks, which are viewed as a spillover of the conflict in Syria.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011 with ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east.
