Tehran, Nov 6, IRNA – The 11th Iranian International Medical Physics Conference began here on Thursday in Imam Khomeini Hospital in the presence of Iranian and foreign professors, researchers and distinguished guests.
“Main objective of holding these conferences is gathering the experts in this field aimed at scientific multiplication of knowledge and as a result, offering greater services,” said the Secretary of the 11th Conference Dr. Sa’eid Sarkar, addressing the international gathering’s opening session.
He said that Iran has the largest number of experts in medical physics field in the region, adding that the International Medical Physics Conference which is held once every two years in Iran was held in 1991 in Tabriz for the first time.
Dr. Sarkar said that presently the 12 Iranian universities offer MA courses in medical physics and five offer PhD courses in the field.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Iranian Medical Physics Association Dr. Seyyed Rabi’a Mahdavi said that presently 22 countries around the globe commemorate the International Physics Day, November 5.
He said that this year the theme of the Tehran International Medical Physics Conference is elaborating the status of medical physics and its role in upgrading the public health level in Iran.
The Secretariat of the conference has received more than 700 papers, 604 of them are chosen to be presented in it as lectures and poster presentations.
A video-conference live message of the Head of the International Organization of Medical Physics Dr.Kin Yin Cheung was aired in the opening session of the scientific conference, followed by lectures of the President of Geneva University of Switzerland Professor Habib Zayed and Professor Esmail Mirzaie from the US Toledo University.
