5 Nov 2014 - 15:28

Geneva, Nov 5, IRNA – Iran honors human rights obligations, Chairman of the Iranian Judiciary's Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani said on Wednesday.
He made the remarks in the 20th session of the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group.
Iran honors the human rights in line with the Islamic principles and the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Larijani said.

Tehran is bound to its international obligations and would continue cooperation with the world body to enhance human rights standards in view of cultural diversity of different nations, he said.

Larijani added that UPR working group is a good opportunity for the member states to present their policies in fields of human rights.

Larijani in a meeting with Non Aligned Movement's ambassadors last Thursday criticized the Western governments for imposing its cultural values on other nations.

Larijani asserted that the West should not dictate its cultural values to other nations which have different cultural and religious values.

Larijani heading a high ranking delegation left Tehran for Geneva last Tuesday.

Larijani participated in the 20th session of the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review Working Group which is being held in Geneva from October 27 to November 7.

Representatives of 14 countries elaborate on their efforts to fulfill their human rights obligations and commitments, assessing both positive developments and identifying challenges.

Iran and the United Nations Human Rights Council are at loggerheads over Iranian refusal to give visa to the rapporteur of human rights council Ahmed Shaheed.
