Iran says a recent report by the UN Special Rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic is biased and politically-motivated.
A member of the Iranian Permanent Mission to the UN on Tuesday dismissed the investigator’s allegations about human rights abuses in Iran, describing the claims as “repetitious and fruitless.”

“The issuance of such reports against the Islamic Republic of Iran is indicative of a biased approach resulting from the foreign policies of certain countries, and the objectives of the sponsors of these moves are completely clear to Iran,” the representative said.

The anti-Iran claims made in the report are aimed at promoting Iranophobia and Islamophobia, the Iranian diplomat said

These acts are meant to put pressure on the Iranian government in a bid to achieve “political gains” and undermine Tehran’s efforts to promote human rights”, the diplomat added.

The representative also questioned the legitimacy of Shaheed’s sources, saying he has refused to collect information through the Iranian government.

In his sixth human rights report on Iran released on Monday, Shaheed depicted a grim face of Iran’s rights situation.

This comes as Tehran has repeatedly criticized biased reports on the human rights situation in the country, saying the appointment of a UN special rapporteur on Iran's human rights situation is a selective, politically-tainted and unacceptable move.
