Iran's former president trip to Rafsanjan cancelled

23 Dec 2014 - 20:24

Despite the recent field advertising about Chairman of the Expediency Council's presence in Rafsanjan, his trip was cancelled.

Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was scheduled to travel to Rafsanjan, but his trip was cancelled, Fars reported.

Since a few days ago, field advertisings have began in Rafsanjan by installing banners in the streets and main squares. In addition to visiting Rafsanjan's Presidential museum, Ayatollah Heshemi Rafsanjani was scheduled to attend the death anniversary of the deceased Friday Prayer Leader of Rasfanjan, Hojjat al-Eslam Mohammad Hashemian, Heshemi Rafsanjani's relative.

Different massages have been recently exchanged among Rasnajini citizens to protest against the Hashemi's trip. They consider the trip as the revival of 2009 sedition in Rafsanjan and Kerman province.

Mehdi and Faiza Hashemi, two children of Iran’s former president Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, accused of fomenting unrest in the post-election crisis of 2009, are currently being kept in country’s Evin prison.

Mehdi Hashemi, who was arrested in late September when he returned from three years living in Britain, is accused of seeking to disrupt the economy and of corruption linked to oil contracts signed during his father’s presidency between 1989 and 1997.

Just days prior to his arrest, his sister, Faezeh Hashemi, was also detained and jailed for “propaganda against the regime” in line with a court decision earlier this year sentencing her to six months in jail.
