Iranian commander: US still sending aid to ISIL

25 Oct 2014 - 23:34

TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri questioned the drive of the US-led anti-ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) coalition, saying that Washington is still providing the terrorist group with different supports and aids.

"The US and the so-called anti-ISIL coalition claim that they have launched a campaign against this terrorist and criminal group, while supplying the group with weapons, food and medicine in Jalawla region (a town in Diyala Governorate, Iraq) explicitly displays the falsity of the coalition and the US claim," Jazayeri said in Tehran on Saturday.

He said the claims that the coalition has airdropped the aid to ISIL as a result of a mistake are unlikely and rather untrue because it had the necessary intelligence about ISIL's deployment in Jalawla city and and even the airspace over the city was controlled by the coalition.

"The US aids to the ISIL still continue," Jazayeri underscored.

Sattar Qanim, an Iraqi MP, said recently that the coalition's fighters have dropped aids for the ISIL terrorists in Jalawla region.

Jazayeri had also made similar remarks last month.

"Based on the intelligence, news and analyses we have, the foreign spy agencies, headed by the US, created, managed and supported the ISIL and regional terrorists logistically," Jazayeri said, addressing Basij (volunteer) forces in Tehran.

"Such cooperation still continues and the Americans seek to fool the public opinion under the pretext of confrontation with the terrorist group," he added.

Jazayeri said that the US has now changed its tactic by forming the so-called anti-ISIL coalition and is attempting to deploy in the region again.

After the US-led coalition against the ISIL declared its creation, Iran lashed out at the western states for pursuing a double-standard policy towards campaign against terrorism in various countries.

Also in September, Iran's Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami underlined that the US-led coalition formed against the ISIL was a political showoff, and said launching airstrikes against the ISIL positions in Iraq was ineffective.

"This coalition is a propaganda job and I doubt its seriousness and on the other hand this coalition is an ineffective measure," Brigadier General Hatami told reporters.

He noted that the West has equipped the ISIL against Syria and Iraq and now they want to confront it.
