Zarif: Group 5+1 should be more serious about lifting sanctions

16 Oct 2014 - 15:50

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The nuclear talks between Tehran and six world powers have been moving forward in all related areas, said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, emphasizing that the other side should be serious about removing the anti-Iran sanctions.

“G5+1 should have a more serious approach toward removal of sanctions and should not deem sanctions as a valuable asset,” Zarif told reporters in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday, he attended a trilateral meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry and European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton to discuss the ways for reaching a final deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear case.

The senior Iranian diplomat also said the next round of trilateral talks will be held in the coming weeks.

He further announced that an “expert meeting” will be held within the next two weeks to discuss the issues over which difference remain.

Zarif also reiterated that Iran’s nuclear energy program is peaceful and the country will never forsake the rights of its people in this regard.

The latest round of talks in Vienna was aimed at ironing out differences and securing an agreement between Tehran and the G5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) to put an end to the West’s 12-year-old standoff on Tehran’s nuclear case.
