The United States’ reaction to Tehran’s earlier announcement about military aid to Lebanon is the “continuation of Washington’s duplicitous and insincere approach towards fighting terrorism,” says the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Ali Shamkhani made the remarks among veterans of the 1980s Iran-Iraq war in Tehran on Wednesday, after the US State Department’s comments on Iran’s support for Lebanon against terrorism.
“While some of those who claim to fight terrorism were paving the way for the formation and expansion of terrorist groups by financial, intelligence, and equipment support, the Islamic Republic of Iran continued with its relentless confrontation against this monstrous phenomenon within the framework of its principal policies,” Shamkhani said.
The Iranian top official added that Tehran would carry on with its approach heedless of the West’s “fanfare”.

US State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said in a press briefing in Washington on Tuesday that “Iranian arms transfers to Lebanon could be in violation of Iran’s obligation under existing UN Security Council resolutions.”

On September 30, Shamkhani said in Lebanese capital Beirut that Tehran is to provide military equipment to the Lebanese army for the fight against terror.

Lebanon has been dealing with terrorism spillover from neighboring Syria, where the ISIL Takfiri terrorists are operating.
