Veep welcomes Argentine president's pro-Iran remarks

29 Sep 2014 - 13:43

Tehran, Sept 29, IRNA - First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri on Monday hailed Argentine President Cristina Fernández remarks in support of her countries' bilateral relations with Iran.
Speaking in a local ceremony, he said that Argentine president's remarks in defense of AMIA Memorandum with Iran can help resolution of the issue.
Iran is committed to enhance bilateral ties with Latin American countries including Argentina, Jahangiri added.

Cristina Fernandez in her speech at the 69th UN General Assembly on Wednesday used the forum to underline her support for the Argentine memorandum of understanding with Iran.

She defended the agreement with Iran to establish a "truth commission" to investigate the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.

On January 27,2013, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Argentinean counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding for the two countries to shed light on the 1994 bombing on the AMIA building in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people. AMIA stands for the Asociacion Mutual Israelita Argentina or the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association.

Under intense political pressure imposed by the US and Israeli regime, Argentina had accused Iran of having carried out the attack. The Islamic Republic has categorically denied any involvement in the terrorist bombing.
