TEHRAN, Sep. 10 – During a meeting with officials from the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran that was held in Tehran, Qatar’s deputy minister of Economy and Commerce proposed a shipping line between the two countries.

Qatar’s Minister of Economy and Commerce Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, who chaired the delegation of traders travelling to Tehran, met with the officials from the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran and requested for a shipping line to be set up directly between ports of Doha and Shahid Rajai.


On Wednesday, Qatar’s deputy minister said, “the Iranian port and Qatari port are less than three hours apart, but there is no direct shipping line between the two countries.”


“In line with the expansion of trade ties between the two countries,” he added, “representatives of Qatar’s three large food incorporations have accompanied us to Iran. Our goal is to be familiarized with Iranian merchants, and we hope these three food incorporations will be able to intorduce Iranian goods to Qatari markets.”


“We also aim at identifying obstacles in the way of the mutual cooperation and hope to exchange ideas to remove them,” he maintained.


Qatar’s deputy minister of Economy asserted that “the lack of a shipping line between Iran and Qatar is a logistical barrier that has prevented us from expanding our goods exchange. We have asked for a shipping line to be set up and Iran has backed the proposal.”
