Maliki calls for expansion of cooperation with Iran

Baghdad, August 24, IRNA – Iraqi incumbent prime minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday called for expansion of relations and cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Maliki made the remarks in a meeting with Iran?s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
?The Iraqi government expects the Islamic Republic of Iran to continue with all previous projects under the new Iraqi administration,? Maliki said.

He thanked the Iranian officials mainly the Supreme Leader for his support for Iraq.

?We are determined to fully support the government of Iraqi designate prime minister Heidar al-Ebadi,? he said.

To develop solidarity and national reconciliation, the three branches of governments should extend broad-based cooperation with the new President, Maliki said.

Zarif appreciated the significant role of Maliki in maintaining the Iraqi security and safeguard the Iraqi national sovereignty.
