TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (MNA) – Iranian parliament held impeachment session for minister of science and research.
After nearly two months of challenge between members of Parliament and Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana, Majlis took advantage of its constitutional right to question the minister.
Impeachment was held this morning while President Rouhani did not attend the session due to his previously planned provincial visit.
At the beginning of the session some questioning MPs raised their questions and debates and Faraji Dana used his first time for defending himself afterwards.
Then some other pro-impeachment MPs delivered their speeches for the second part. Faraji Dana used his final chance to answer the questions and defend his performance before impeachment being put for vote.
270 MPs were attending the session and 145 parliamentarians voted for and 110 voted against impeachment to give a no-confidence vote to Faraji Dana.
President Rouhani has two weeks for introducing his next candidate for the position.
