White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett has criticized Israel for attacking schools and hospitals in the Gaza Strip, saying the strikes are “indefensible.”
“This is why the ceasefire is so important,” Jarrett said in an interview with CBS News on Sunday.

“It’s a devastating situation. Israel absolutely has the right to defend itself, and we are Israel’s staunchest ally. But you also can’t condone the killing of all of these innocent children.”

“I think everyone involved is frustrated,” Jarrett said.

“But you can’t let your frustration get in the way of trying to be a constructive player here, and that’s what [Obama's] determined to do,” she added.

Over the weekend, thousands of people took to the streets in the United States to support the Palestinian people who are under continued attacks by Israel.

About 10,000 people gathered in Washington DC on Saturday to condemn Israel’s atrocities against the people in Gaza.

In Los Angeles, activists also rallied in solidarity with the people of Palestine. The protesters marched on the Israeli consulate and shut down traffic for hours to condemn the bloodshed in Gaza.

Israeli attacks have left more than 1,800 people killed and over 9,300 others injured.

In an interview with Press TV, American philosopher and political commentator Noam Chomsky said Israel has committed “a major war crime” in Gaza.

Chomsky said that Israel is much worse than the former apartheid regime in South Africa.

“Hospitals have been attacked repeatedly. Each one is a war crime. In fact, for Israel to fire one bullet across the border is also a crime. Trials for war crimes only apply to the defeated. Within the occupied territory, Israel’s polices are much worse than apartheid,” he said.
