An official with the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) says the country’s exports to Europe have witnessed an increase of 20 percent in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21).
“The value of Iran’s exports to Europe stood at around USD 541 million in the first two months of the current [Iranian calendar] year which shows a 20-percent increase in comparison with the same period of the previous year,” Mir-Aboutaleb Badri, the TPOI’s vice president for marketing and trade relations, said on Monday.

He added that Iran's major export items included iron and alloy steel products, methanol, cathodes and pistachio, which were sent to Turkey, Italy, Russia, Spain and Britain.

The official noted that Iran’s geostrategic position, which provides a gateway to its neighboring countries, has been effective in promotion of trade between the two sides.

Badri further said Iran’s imports from Europe over the same period have decreased and reached USD 1,883 million.

He added that Iran mainly imported goods from Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Russia.
