Campaign begins to restore major Tehran landmark

18 Jul 2014 - 13:31

A new campaign has been established by a group of Iranian cultural heritage and history aficionados to save Azadi Tower, a prominent landmark in the capital.
In a statement published by ISNA, the group expresses concern regarding the deteriorating condition of the tower, saying professional restoration efforts are urgently needed.

Azadi Tower was built in 1971 by Iran’s now-deceased monarch, Mohammadreza Pahlavi, and given the name Shahyad as the chief landmark of the city. After the 1979 Revolution, the tower’s name was changed to the Azadi (Freedom) Tower.
