A political analyst says Washington’s policy on different issues, including Iran, is largely under the influence of the Israeli lobby, Press TV reports.
In an interview on Wednesday, Alison Weir, the Executive Director of If Americans Knew NGO, said that all American presidents, including Barack Obama, have to “play to the Israel lobby" which seeks a “hard-line” US policy on Iran.
“The Israeli lobby is always a major factor in all US policies and in the statements made by our president and our congressional representatives,” she said.
“Israel’s lobby is still powerful and Obama still thinks he has to make statements such as we have undying ties to Israel” as part of the typical statements made by the American presidents, she added.
Commenting on Obama’s repeated military threats against Iran, Weir said that Americans are tired of war and aggression, warning that more military campaigns will damage the US and bring tragedy to all parties involved.
In a Monday interview with Bloomberg View, Obama repeated his threat that “all options are on the table” regarding Iran’s nuclear program, claiming that the Iranians “take it seriously.”
On the same day, US Secretary of State John Kerry told the annual conference of pro-Israeli lobby group AIPAC in Washington D.C. that the US approach toward Iran is not “trust and verify” but “verify and verify.”
“Our diplomacy is guided by a simple bottom line: No deal is better than a bad deal, and we absolutely will not accept a bad deal,” Kerry added.
He also said that the United States will stand by Israel’s side when it comes to the ongoing nuclear talks with Iran.
