Thursday, February 13, 2014 - Islamabad—Historic and cultural links and close proximity with commonalities between Pakistan and Iran in divergent fields have great regional realities forcing both the countries to have cooperative relationship for benefit of their people. Gas pipeline project is a life- line of energy-starved Pakistan which will also bind both the states economically. No doubt, some international and regional dimensions have laid down rough patches in the way of this energy line which can also connect other countries in the region including China and India, but it will remain an ultimate destination of Islamabad and Tehran.
The national day of Islamic Republic of Iran brought a special day in Islamabad as eminentpersonalities belonging to different segments of society thronged a grand reception hosted by Iranian Ambassador Alireza Haghighian in a local hotel on Tuesday evening. The lively, colourful and jam-packed reception has many tones of amity, cordiality and good neighbourliness as Iran has undeniable historic and cultural links with this part of the world.

The prolific and sagacious Iranian Ambassador was the moving spirit in the grand gala who received and greeted his each and every guest with a smile. The other Iranian diplomats were also in the reception line to welcome politicians, parliamentarians, members of diplomatic corps, businessmen, retired diplomats and Generals, students, religious scholars and mediamen. Among those who attended the reception were Amir of Jamaate Islami Professor Munawwar Hassan, Liaqat Baloch, Dr. Anis Ahmad, Lt. Gen.(retd) Hamid Gul, Pir Naqeeb-ur-Rahman, Haji Adeel, Akram Zaki Former Ministers Dr. Ashiq Awan and Naveed Qamar, Wasim Sajjad, Murtaza Poya, Mushahid Hussain Syed and Minister Balighur Rahman.

The proceedings of the reception kicked off on arrival of the Chief Guest Minister Lt. Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch when national anthems of both the countries were played followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

The cozy atmosphere of the hall was providing a very conducive atmosphere for interaction among various segments on issues relating to this region and the world. Traditional dishes and exhibition of handicrafts and paintings on the occasion added a beauty to the function. Iran is the biggest trading partner of Pakistan in the region. Some ups and downs in their ties during the last over sixty years did not hamper their progressive ties which has definitely benefited the people of both the nations. With the recent understanding with the US on nuclear programme, Iran is on the move in world affairs now.

The frequent exchanges of high level visits have boosted their ties. The regional peace and prosperity depend on Pakistan and Iran which can achieve these goals while moving hand in hand.
