Last fall there was high-level official contact between Iran and the United States for the first time in over 30 years.
One of the greatest challenges facing President Obama is the Iranian nuclear issue, so he should invite a member of the Iranian community who best exemplifies the importance of diplomacy: Trita Parsi.
Parsi is the founder and president of the National Iranian American Council.Earlier this month, when the Senate was preparing to sabotage the internationally brokeredinterim deal with Iran, Parsi’s organization supported Obama in blocking the bill. The council has been a longtime advocate of diplomacy and the White House has clearly taken unprecedented steps in that direction. To extend an invitation to Trita Parsi would be a wise and bold move.
