New Delhi, Oct 15, IRNA - An Indian analyst of the world affairs believes that the famous fatwa of the Supreme Leader condemning the production and possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) laid the foundation for resolving Iran’s nuclear dispute with the West.
In an exclusive interview with IRNA here, Ms Arti Bali said: “Issuing fatwa by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemning the production and possession of weapons of mass destruction including the nuclear ones, in fact laid the foundation for Mr Rouhani’s approach to solve the nuclear issue and to end Iran-US standoff since the Ayatollah is the ultimate authority to decide the matters regarding the nuclear issue of Iran.
“Since Ayatollah Khamenei is the highest decision maker on all issues pertaining to Iran’s foreign policy including its nuclear program, it seems that the West has approved his fatwa condemning the production and possession of the WMDs including the nuclear ones and, therefore, has soften its position on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.” She added.
Terming the ongoing economic crisis in the West as another reason for softening of the West’s opposition to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, she said moreover
Washington feels that letting Iran continue its peaceful nuclear program as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is necessary.
On the possibility of improvement of ties between Iran and the US in near future, the analyst of the International affairs, said president Rouhani’s openly displaying his intention to end the nuclear standoff with the West by securing a deal after negotiations and the US President’s acknowledgment of the same through a direct phone call to his Iranian counterpart are ample indications of improvement of relations between the two nations.
She further underlined the need to conduct the negotiations in a serious and a frank environment and in a spirit of give and take that should also involve lifting of the sanctions regime against Iran.
Appreciating the diplomatic initiative of the Russian President Vladimir Putin in resolving the Syrian crisis, Bali said, “the US needs to take a cue from the Russian diplomatic handling of the Syrian problem. This also makes Washington to realize the EU’s reluctance to support the US plans to resolve the diplomatic issues through the military actions.”
She further advised the US to take care of its own national interests rather than those of the Zionist regime.
She commented on the possible impact of improvement of Iran-US ties on the geopolitics in Middle East and India and said such moves will certainly have great impact on domestic conditions in various countries like Egypt and Syria.
Improvement of Iran-US relations will have immense effect on India’s commercial and trade relations with Central Asian countries and would also enable India to massively contribute to the development works in Afghanistan with the development of Chabahar port across the western border of Afghanistan. This will off-set substantively the refusal of Pakistan in allowing the transit of Indian goods and trade to Afghanistan through the only route available to India. This, in turn, will greatly improve India-Afghanistan–Iran relations, she noted.
