The Wall Street Journal - There is nothing at all pragmatic about providing a blank check to a partner that continues to commit major mistakes.
In “The U.S.-Saudi Partnership Is Vital” (op-ed, Nov. 28), Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s claims that “without U.S. efforts, the death toll in Yemen would be far higher.” The secretary seems to think this is exculpatory.
In reality, it’s nothing short of an indictment. In writing it, he implies that the Saudi and Emirati led coalition is so callous to Yemeni suffering and so uninterested in international law that, were it not for Washington’s calming hand, the coalition’s bombardments would be even more indiscriminate and it’s aid restrictions even more draconian.
