Fresh achievements of Resistance Front in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta region

17 Apr 2018 - 16:41

March 1, The Iran Project - Thanks to the zealous efforts made by the resistance axis, only one day after the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution demanding a 30-day ceasefire across Syria to allow for humanitarian aid deliveries and medical evacuations, the Syrian army started a ground operation against the al-Nusra Front and other terrorist groups in the Eastern Ghouta region, retaking control over some areas.

On Feb. 25, Iran's Arabic-language Al-Alam news channel reported the recapture of the Nashabeya and Hazrma areas as well as Farzat Hill by the Syrian military, adding that Syrian army soldiers had advanced in al-Zariqiya as terrorists fled the region.

UNSC Resolution 2401

In a meantime, on Saturday (Feb. 25) , the UN Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 2401 urging all the conflicting sides to immediately stop all clashes and adhere to a long-term humanitarian pause on the entire territory of Syria in order to ensure the safe and unhindered humanitarian aid supplies as well as medical evacuation of those injured.

The move has followed the escalation of tensions in Syria's Eastern Ghouta. The area, located near Damascus, is controlled by Jaysh al-Islam and other armed opposition groups as well as by Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group, which is outlawed in Russia.

Military Strike

UN Security Council spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters military strikes in the last two days have killed at least 30 people in Eastern Ghouta, where the United Nations is attempting to arrange a cease fire.

Since the February 19, escalating hostilities have resulted in 500 deaths and some 1,500 injuries in Eastern Ghouta, Dujarric said.

Dujarric added that during the same period 24 health facilities in Eastern Ghouta have been hit with shelling and airstrikes in addition to three humanitarian sites

Rogue Alliance

Recently, the Syria’s Foreign and Expatriates Ministry asserted that the international alliance’s persistence in committing massacres against the Syrian people and supporting the remnants of Daesh (ISIS) terror organization and restructuring them as separatist militias working for Washington confirms that this rogue alliance’s only goal is to undermine Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and to prolong the crisis.

In a letter addressed on Tuesday (Feb. 27) to the UN Secretary-General and the head of the Security Council, the Syrian ministry said that this letter follows up on tens of letters detailing the massacres committed by the so-called international alliance against Syrians, the most recent dated February 21st.

The letter said that the US-led alliance committed two new massacres against Syrian civilians on Sunday February 25th, when its warplanes bombarded the homes of civilians in al-Shaafa and Dhahret Alouni villages in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor province, martyring 29 civilians and inflicting severe injuries on tens of others, most of them women and children, in addition to causing damage to civilians’ homes, properties, and infrastructure in the villages.

The letter concluded by asserting that Syria demands ending the illegal presence of US forces on Syrian soil and preventing the US from implementing its suspicious plans that seek to divide Syria and plunder its resources, saying that this most recent crime and the crime of demolishing Raqqa city uncover the true face of the US administration’s policies, policies that must be condemned and exposed.

Good or Bad Terrorists

Meanwhile, during his address to the High-Level Segment of the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council, Lavrov said some members of the UN Human Rights Council aren't ready to condemn the international terrorism under the pretext of upholding the freedom of speech, adding that the international community shouldn't divide terrorists on "good and bad ones."

"Russia continues to fight this vicious practice of double standards and supports the Syrian army in its move to destroy terrorism," Lavrov added.

“It is also necessary to urgently dispatch a joint UN-ICRC assessment mission to Raqqa, which has been bombed to rubble and left to the mercy of fate by the coalition, with minefields uncleared and infrastructure fully devastated,” Lavrov said.

Humanitarian Pause
On Feb. 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a daily five-hour “humanitarian pause” in the besieged Syrian enclave of eastern Ghouta which began on Tuesday, effectively replacing a United Nations Security Council resolution that had demanded a month-long ceasefire in the embattled region.

The Russian president’s move, which was announced by his defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, highlighted in stark terms Russia’s primacy in Syrian affairs and the UN’s failure to impose an end to the fighting in the area bordering Damascus.

 Truce Begins

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday (Feb. 27) that calm has prevailed in Syria’s eastern Ghouta since midnight, as a five-hour truce called by Russia started at 9 a.m. (0700 GMT).

In a meantime, the Russian call for a five-hour truce on Tuesday failed to halt one of the most devastating campaigns of the Syrian war, where residents said  warplanes resumed striking the eastern Ghouta region after a brief lull.

Moscow and Damascus blamed rebels for the collapse of the truce, saying fighters had shelled a safe route intended for civilians to leave the enclave.t

To sum it up the unity of Resistance Front should be considered as the key element in settlement of Syria crisis and the problems of Arab country should be resolved through the political means. Iran has repeatedly said that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria and the only sustainable solution can be achieved through dialogue.
