US has long history of violating treaties: Analyst

28 Nov 2016 - 12:26

Press TV- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the renewal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic by the US is tantamount to the violation of commitments under the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

A former American intelligence linguist believes that the United States has a long history of violating treaties not only across the world but even within its own borders.

“Certainly the Native American Indians can attest to that looking at what is going on with the current situation in North Dakota,” Scott Rickard told Press TV.

He also noted that the West's sanctions against Iran are tremendously “unfair” and “aggressive” because the Islamic Republic is operating within the JCPOA and the United States and its allies are once again breaking agreements.

The analyst further stated that unfortunately, economic sanctions have been used “predominantly” by the West not only among their adversaries but between each other.

He also opined that economic warfare is “tragic” especially when it comes to the safety and the humanity of the people that are being imposed on.

“Obviously Iran, Iraq, other countries have suffered greatly from sanctions that have kept even medicines outside of their countries and certainly the safety of the airline industry in Iran is ... suffering greatly as well,” he said.

The GOP-controlled US House of Representatives on November 15 passed a bill for a 10-year extension of the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA). The ISA will expire at the end of 2016 if it is not renewed. The bill must be approved by the Senate before being signed by the US president into law
