Alwaght- The war on Syria was clearly not concocted overnight. It took time to devise such a plot, it took time to start implementing, and it is taking time, effort, and resources to keep it in place.

Since the outbreak of the conflict in 2011, reports and evidence have been emerging implicating the involvement of foreign countries in aiding the terrorist groups which are fighting against the Syrian army. This includes financial and logistical support provided by the US and UK.

Now, more than five years later, evidence of such involvement is still emerging including armament and intelligence.

The Daily Mail has published a report in which it cited the Department for International Development as having said that millions of pounds worth of British aid to Syria may have ended up in the hands of ISIS.

In a report about a program to provide humanitarian relief to refugees in Syria, DFID acknowledges that ‘the most serious risk’ to its programs in the war-battered state is ‘from the large scale diversion of aid, including for the purposes of terrorism’.

Officials estimated that up to £5.1 million may have fallen in the hands of ISIS, ‘well below’ one percent of the £510 million of British aid that has gone to Syria since 2011.

MP Andrew Bridgen reacted disbelievingly saying: ‘The British public would be horrified to learn that any of their generously given aid had gone to the death cult Islamic State.’

Indeed, the British government remains largely unaware of what the government is doing to help the armed opposition.

But the UK is not working single-handedly. Washington has sided with the opposition from day one, and was even supportive when this “opposition” started revealing its true colors.

American-made weapons have been found on the battlefield, launched by terrorist groups from the Jaish al-Fatah coalitions which includes the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front.

On Dec. 20, the Syrian army recaptured the town of Khan Touman in southern Aleppo and then proceeded to cut off the terrorists’ supplies through Aleppo-Damascus highway. However, Jaish al-Fatah has managed to reoccupy Khan Touman having used the US-supplied TOW-missile against government vehicles.

Today, as the battle for Khan Touman is in its decisive moments, the US-provided weapons are being used by militants against the Syrian army.

Supporting those who are killing in the name of democracy, whether financially, militarily, or politically makes the supporter an accomplice. If providing arms and intelligence to terrorist groups does not amount to crime, then what does?

There is no doubt that such actions are clear violations of UNSC resolutions on terrorism in Syria. The 15-member body has issued resolutions denouncing terrorism and charting two tracks to fight it, supporting it is not one of them.

On the other hand, Damascus has been keen to fulfil its part in combating this threat, regardless of what its opponents say.

Last month, Bashar Jaafari, Syria’s representative at the UN, said the Syrian army’s battles against terrorist groups do not constitute violations of UN resolution 2254.

"According to resolution 2254, there are two tracks — political and military, on combating terrorists. So combating terrorism is a fully legitimate action taken by the Syrian army and its allies in accordance with the resolution," Jaafari said.

Syria has been caught in a whirlpool of blood since March 2011. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions have been displaced, not to mention the number of injuries and the extent of destruction it has left. Were it not for this foreign-backed militancy, which is revealed all the more as time passes, Syria may have had a better chance at peace and stability for the past five years.
