Quake jolts northeastern Iran

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit the suburbs of Boshraviyeh in the northeastern Iranian province of South Khorasan on Tuesday evening.

The quake occurred at 17:44 hours local time (14:14 GMT) at a depth of 11 kilometers, according to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of the University of Tehran.

The epicenter of the quake was 33 kilometers from Boshraviyeh in South Khorasan Province.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
