AmirAbdollahian to Guterres: Nuclear weapons have no place in Iran
In a telephone conversation with the UN Secretary-General, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized that nuclear weapons have no place in the doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran and are contrary to Iran's policies and beliefs.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and the Secretary General of the United Nations discussed and exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the developments in Gaza and negotiations to lift sanctions.

"Hossein AmirAbdollahian"; on Sunday, in a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antnio Guterres, referring to the annual meeting of the NPT (Treaty on the Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons) in New York and the active presence of the Iranian delegation, said: "Fatwa of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution is clear about the status of using nuclear weapons."

Fatwa is a ruling on the point of Islamic law given by a recognized and knowledgeable religious authority.

AmirAbdollahian added: "The nuclear non-proliferation treaty is the result of a balance, and various aspects of this balance have always been emphasized {by Iran}, but some countries deal with it selectively."

According to AmirAbdollahian: "The Islamic Republic of Iran, as the originator of the idea of ??creating a zone free of nuclear weapons in West Asia, declares its readiness to continue constructive cooperation in this direction."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said: "We are serious about reaching a strong and lasting agreement, and now the negotiations are being followed seriously in Vienna, although the outcome of this matter depends on the United States showing the necessary realism in practice."

AmirAbdollahian further noted: "Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency continues, but we believe that the agency should distance itself from deviant and non-constructive political issues and resolve the remaining safeguard issues completely through the technical way.

Referring to the recent aggression of the Zionist regime on Gaza and the martyrdom of dozens of Palestinian citizens, children, and women, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized: The Palestinian resistance will give a stronger response to the Zionist regime in continuing to defend its land and security.

In this telephone conversation, Guterres also emphasized the need to eliminate nuclear weapons worldwide, adding: "JCPOA talks are crucial, and we have emphasized on compromise and greater flexibility in relation to the dialogue parties at this stage."
