Pakistan's former foreign minister's advisor on international law Sikander Ahmed Shah has advised Islamabad that greater engagement with Tehran, particularly in the area of energy security and counterterrorism, ensures Pakistan's need and prosperity.

Ahmed Shah said that Iran and Pakistan share common cultural, social, and geostrategic interests.

Stressing the importance of using barter mechanisms to facilitate bilateral trade with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he advised the Pakistani government that cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran is particularly essential on common issues, such as energy security or counterterrorism to ensure Pakistan's safety and prosperity.

Pointing to the importance of Iran's land routes for Pakistan to trade with Central Asian states, as well as Turkey, he underscored that Iran's position as a regional power and its oil and gas reserves should encourage Islamabad to improve relations with Iran.
