Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh strongly condemned Sunday’s attacks on Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley, voiced concern about foreign interference in Afghanistan, and abhorred the martyrdom of Afghan leaders in the fighting.
Asked about the reports of Taliban’s conquest of Panjshir Valley in Afghanistan, Khatibzadeh said at a press conference on Monday that the news of military clashes in Panjshir are “extremely worrying”.
He also condemned yesterday’s attacks on Panjshir in the strongest terms and expressed regret at the martyrdom of Afghan leaders.
Condemning foreign interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan, the Iranian spokesman added, “Everybody should know that the history of Afghanistan has proved that foreign meddling will result in nothing but failure.”
Khatibzadeh also urged that the conflict in Panjshir should be settled politically and through negotiations. “Nobody should allow this path to end with fratricide.”
The Iranian diplomat called on the Taliban to honor their commitments.
