Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization has dismissed reports that a Ukrainian aircraft has been hijacked in Afghanistan and diverted to Iranian soil, saying Tehran has documented the plane’s landing at Kiev’s airport.
Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Yenin alleged on Tuesday that a Ukrainian plane evacuating Ukrainians from Afghanistan had been hijacked by unidentified armed individuals, who flew it into Iran.
“Last Sunday, our plane was hijacked by other people. On Tuesday, the plane was practically stolen from us, it flew into Iran with an unidentified group of passengers onboard instead of airlifting Ukrainians. Our next three evacuation attempts were also not successful because our people could not get into the airport,” he was quoted by Russia’s Tass news agency as saying.
