Tehran-Damascus ties exemplary: Syrian FM

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad praised Tehran-Damascus relations and said his country’s relations with Iran have become a role-model in all areas.

According to the official Syrian news agency (SANA), Mekdad made the remarks during a meeting with the head of the Iranian parliament foreign policy commission Vahid Jalalzadeh and his accompanying delegation in Damascus.

The Foreign Minister stressed the important role the Iranian people, government and parliament members play in supporting the stability of Syria and enforcing its abilities to counter the terrorist war imposed on it.

Mekdad also reiterated his country’s support for Iran in the face of all efforts to undermine Iran’s achievements since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and said that the Syrian people have confidence in Iran’s abilities to overcome all economic difficulties and sanctions.

The two officials also reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to expand and strengthen it in all areas in order to meet the challenges.

Jalalzadeh pointed to the old history of ties between the two countries and said the present mutual relations were based on cooperation and mutual support in all fields.

He believed that mutual meetings and coordination between the parliaments of the two countries have played an important role in strengthening this cooperation and increasing the level of relations between Damascus and Tehran.

In a press conference later on, Jalalzadeh also called the meeting with Syrian officials as constructive and emphasized the depth of Iran-Syria relations and the need to strengthen cooperation between the two countries based on the interests of the both nations.
