Iran envoy decries UNSCs inaction over Israeli crimes

Irans ambassador to the United Nations lamented that the UN Security Councils muted response has encouraged the Israeli regime to aggravate its atrocities against Palestinians.

Speaking at an emergency UNSC meeting, held on Sunday to discuss the Israeli regimes new wave of aggression against Palestine, Irans UN envoy Majid Takht Ravanchi said the Zionist regime is busy committing the full range of gravest international crimes amid US-enabled silence at the Security Council.

He said Israel was simultaneously engaged in genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression against the Palestinians owing to the Security Councils mum on the savagery.

The Iranian ambassador also said the UN Security Councils inaction had increasingly emboldened the Zionist regime in the atrocities, Press TV reported.

Takht Ravanchi then cited the USs patronage for the brutal regime as a key factor behind its sustained avoidance of accountability for the atrocities on the international arena.

The US has been systematically shielding the Israeli regime against international condemnation, whether under the Democrats or the Republicans, he said, citing Washingtons blocking of 44 anti-Israeli draft resolutions during the UNSCs history.

The current American administration was similarly trying to protect the regime, and had even prevented the Council from issuing a simple press release urging cessation of its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, he said.

Acting so, Washington has shown that it would decisively back the regime no matter the enormity of its crimes, the Iranian envoy added.

Since Monday, as many as 192 Palestinians, including 58 children and 34 women, have died during a significant escalation in the Israeli militarys attacks against Gaza.

Scores of others have also died in the nearby Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank, during the regimes attacks on Palestinian worshippers and protesters
