Erbil not to allow its soil to be used against Iran

In a meeting with Iranian foreign minister Zarif, Masoud Barzani stressed that Erbil won't allow any groups to use its soil to pose threat against Iran.







Iranian Foreign MinisterMohammad Javad Zarif, arrived in Erbil on Tuesday afternoon on the second day of his visit to Iraq,after his visit to Baghdad and his meetings with Iraqi officials and political figures.

He met with Massoud Barzani, the leader ofIraqi Kurdistan Democratic Partyafter arriving inErbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

In the meeting, Zarif explained the approach of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the security of Iraq and the Kurdistan region, saying that Tehran opposes any threat against Iraq and the Kurdistan region's security.

Massoud Barzanisaid that the Iraqi Kurdistan governmentwill not allow any groups to use its soil to posethreatagainst Iran.

Barzani, for his part, expressedhis hope for a positive outcome of Vienna talks on reviving Iran's nuclear deal and thankedthe Islamic Republic of Iran for its perspectiveon the security of Iraq and the Kurdish region.

Zarif arrived in Erbil from Baghdad. During his visit to Baghdad, the Foreign Ministermet with the Iraqi Foreign Minister, President and Speaker of Parliament as well aswith the former prime ministers Maleki and al-Mahdi in addition to meetings with some other Iraqi political and religious leaders.

The Foreign Minister wrote on his Twitter page about his meetings in Baghdad:Excellent talks in #Iraq with President @BarhamSalih, PM @MAKadhimi, Speaker Halbousi, FM @Fuad_Hussein1 & senior Sunni & Shia leaders. Emphasized that Iran's priority is its neighbors. We welcome Iraq's pivotal role in the region. More meetings in Baghdad & Erbil today, Zarif wrote."

Zarif arrived in Iraq from Qatar yesterday.He is scheduled to continue his regional tour by travelingto Muscat to meet with his Omani counterpart.
