Iran-Afghanistan comprehensive deal in final stages: Deputy FM

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi said a comprehensive document for strategic cooperation between Tehran and Kabul is going to be finalized after the agreement is reached on the last remaining section.

In an interview with Iran Press during a visit to Kabul, Araqchi said the strategic cooperation document consists of five parts, four of which have been finalized, and only the section on security issues remains to be agreed upon.

Araghchi stressed the importance of consultations between the two countries, saying Iran and Afghanistan are neighbors and share common interests and concerns.

"Afghanistan has been involved in many problems and the Iranian people and government have always stood by the Afghan people and government," he said.

"This association shows that peace and stability in Afghanistan is peace and stability in Iran and that the well-being of the Afghan people is directly related to the progress of the Iranian people, and this is a strategic fact," he added.

"I think all the people of Afghanistan acknowledge that the source of the country's problems in the last 40 years has come from different places and from other countries," Iran Press quoted Araqchi as saying.

On the results of his visit to Kabul for talks on the comprehensive cooperation document, Araqchi said good progress had been made in finalizing the document.

Asked about the Afghan peace talks in Doha, Araqchi said no country should be allowed to interfere in the intra-Afghan negotiations in Qatar.

Araqchi has visited top Afghan authorities in the visit to Kabul.
