Iran puts US envoy to Iraq in sanctions list: FM spox

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh announced on Friday that the Islamic Republic has sanctioned the US Ambassador in Baghdad Matthew Tueller for his main role in coordinating terrorist acts in Iraq and the assassination of the late anti-terror Commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

"US Ambassadorto Iraq, Matthew Tueller, has had a central role in coordinating terrorist acts in Iraq & beyond, in the criminal assassination ofGeneralSoleimaniand in advancing sanctions against our people,"Khatibzadehwrote on hisTwitter account.

"Today, Iran designated him and two other officials involved. Anti-Iran moves won't go unanswered," he added.

In a related development earlier on Friday, Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi regarding the US action to put his name on the fresh sanctions list said that the US new sanctions made him and 80 million Iranians more resolved for legitimacy of their intentions and actions to achieve the goals of the Islamic Republic of Iiran and the Iranian people.

Masjedi in an interview with IRNA onFriday said that "Iwasgladtohearthenews, of course, theUS terroristandcriminalregimehasonceagainputmycountrywith80millionIraniansonits sanctions list,killingthe peopleof my countryandthousandsof childrenandpatientsatthe peakofthe coronavirus onmedicineandfoodshortagesandsubjectedtonon-humanpressure".

Iran's Ambassador to Iraqadded that the Islamic RevolutionGuard Corps (IRGC), the IRGC-Qods Force areare an honorforall who arefighting for democrcy and undoubtedly, theaxisof Islamicresistancewillcontinuewiththe decisivesupportof the IslamicRepublicof Iranandthe relentless fightagainstthe US terrorist and usurperregime andwillachievethe divinevictory.

The United States on Thursday slapped new sanctions on five Iranian entities for what it called brazen attempts to interfere with the US election.

The Treasury imposed the fresh sanctions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the IRGC-Qods Force, the Bayan Rasaneh Gostar Institute, the Iranian Islamic Radio and Television Union and International Union of Virtual Media.
