President Hassan Rouhani made strong protest to White House over the inhumane sanctions and maximum pressure on Iran, saying that the White House is responsible for the crimes against humanity due to shortage of medical and emergency supplies.

President Rouhani made the remarks at a meeting on national anti-coronavirus headquarters in Tehran.

The president said that domestic opponents of the Government must not give wrong address about the shortages of medicine and emergency supplies, they should know that the White House is accountable for the inhumane sanctions on Iran.

Someday, when Iran had talked about certain issues, two or three countries would support it; but today, only two or three states back the United States because it has not been faithful to its commitments compared to Iran honoring commitments, the president said.

Despite the world criticism, US withdrew unilaterally from the July 2015 nuclear deal, aka Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in May 2018.

Speaking about the issue of COVID-19, the president called on people to increase cooperation in order to breeze through the deadly coronavirus conditions.

Over half of the population did follow health protocols in recent months, he added.

Since its outbreak in December 2019, the coronavirus has killed near one million people worldwide, while the number of the dead in Iran is over 25,000.

Two days ago, President Rouhani said some restrictions will be imposed in society if protocols are not followed up and new wave of coronavirus comes.

He noted the possibility to fine those who do not wear face masks as preemptive measure.

Turning to the issue of Arbaeen, the president said Arbaeen rallies are called off due to the pandemic.

Arbaeen marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) Infallible Household.

On September 19, Head of Arbaeen Central Headquarters Hossein Zolfaqari said Arbaeen rituals will be held in the open air across Iran observing all health protocols and regulations just like the Day of Ashura, day of martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
