Tasnim Irans foreign minister decried Europes double standards on anti-government protests in different parts of the world and its deafeningly silence on demonstrations in the US, saying Europeans should keep lips sealed forever if they want to stay silent for now.

In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Mohammad Javad Zarif pointed to the massive protests across the US over the killing of an unarmed Black man at the hands of police, saying, US cities are scenes of brutality against protesters & press, as military crackdown is threatened.

He also denounced the European governments muted response to the developments in the US, adding, Europequick to be judge & jury about non-Western societieskeeps deafeningly silent.

If it (Europe) wants to keep lips sealed now, it should always keep them that way, Zarif added.

The US has been gripped by protests over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died last week in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and police brutality nationwide.

Lawyers representing the Floyd family said independent medical examiners who conducted an autopsy on Floyd's determined that asphyxiation from sustained pressure was the cause of death.

Protesters are demanding all four officers involved be charged in Floyd's death. So far, only one - white officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes as the Black man pleaded, "I can't breathe" - has been arrested and charged on Friday with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
