Tasnim Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf called for close interaction with neighboring Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

In a Monday telephone conversation with Speaker of Afghanistan's House of the People Mir Rahman Rahmani, Qalibaf stressed the need for efforts to enhance the security of the common border.

Through close cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan, significant measures can be taken in countering the threats, including terrorism, drugs, and interference from third countries for destabilizing the region, the Iranian speaker added.

He further condemned the recent fatal terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and offered his condolences to the Afghan parliament, government and nation.

For his part, Rahmani congratulated Qalibaf on his election as the new speaker of the Iranian Parliament, saying Afghanistan's House of the People is prepared to broaden the parliamentary, political, cultural and economic relations with Iran.

On Saturday, Qalibaf had a telephone conversation with Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Sadiq Sanjrani to weigh plans to expand the economic and trade relations between Tehran and Kabul.

The parliament speakers of many regional countries have contacted Qalibaf in recent days to discuss the ways to broaden ties with Iran's new Parliament.
