IRGC commander highlights Army role in boosting Iran’s might

Tasnim – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami lauded efforts by the Army to enhance the country’s military might and deterrent power.

In a message on Thursday, General Salami congratulated the Iranian nation and the Armed Forces on the National Army Day, which falls on April 17.

Despite the enemy’s ongoing hostilities, the Army and IRGC will not hesitate for a second to boost the country’s deterrent power and military strength, the IRGC chief added.

Undoubtedly, he said, the Army. in unity and cooperation with the country’s other Armed Forces, the IRGC in particular, has played a major role in safeguarding Iran’s independence and territorial integrity and countering enemies’ threats.

Iran will celebrate the Army Day and the Ground Force Day on Friday. Every year commemorative parades are held across the country on the occasion but this year the parades have been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

In Iran, the new coronavirus has so far infected 77,995 and killed 4,869 others, with 52,229 cases of recovery, according to the latest updates released by the Health Ministry on Thursday.

Iranian Armed Forces, including the Army and the IRGC, have been joining the battle particularly after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on March 12 issued an edict to Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, emphasizing the need for the establishment of a “health and treatment base” to prevent the further spread of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic in the country.
