The Wall Street Journal | Jennifer Calfas, Jim Carlton and Lucy Craymer: Four new deaths linked to the coronavirus have been reported in Washington state

Washington state emerged as the U.S. center of a spreading coronavirus fight Monday, as state health officials reported four additional deaths there and 18 confirmed cases and multiple schools closed for disinfection.

The deaths�three women in their 70s or 80s linked to an outbreak at the Life Care Center nursing facility in Kirkland, Wash., and one man in his 40s from neighboring Snohomish County�brought the U.S. death toll to six. The viral infection has now claimed more than 3,000 lives around the world.

The nursing home was the site of four of the nation�s deaths and has four other confirmed cases, including one woman in her 80s who is in critical condition, according to King County�s public health department.
