Iranian, Pakistani top diplomats discuss ties, regional issues

Tasnim – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, held talks on a range of issues, including the latest developments in the region and the world.

During their meeting in Tehran on Monday, the two diplomats exchanged views about ways to boost bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan in various political and economic areas.

Zarif and Qureshi also discussed the latest developments in the Persian Gulf region and called for a de-escalation of the recent tensions.

The Pakistani foreign minister’s visit to Tehran comes amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf following the US assassination of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad and Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes at US targets in Iraq.
