Tremor jolts southern Iran

IRNA An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook the town of Ruydar, Hormozgan Province, Iran, on Thursday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 06:45 hours local time (03:15 GMT) and at the depth of eight km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at longitude of 55.09 degrees and latitude of 27.30 degrees.

No report has been so far released on the possible casualties or damages.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
