President.ir - The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Prime Minister of Spain discussed development of relations between the two countries in the fields of technology and tourism, expressing their opposition against the United States' unilateral sanctions against Iran.

President Hassan Rouhani and Prime Minister Pedro Snchez met Tuesday noon in New York on the sidelines of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, and discussed ways of developing relations between the two countries.

They also discussed President Rouhani's Hormuz Peace Initiative (HOPE) aimed at ensuring security in the Persian Gulf.

Dr Rouhani referred to the two countries' potentials and emphasised further deepening of ties.

"The United States Administration's current sanctions and bullying behavior will collapse in the long term, but the long-standing relations between friendly countries, like Iran and Spain, must stand strong," he said.

President Rouhani also highlighted development of scientific, academic and technological relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of bio- and nanotechnology.

At the same meeting, Prime Minister Pedro Snchez expressed regret over the Iranian nation's suffering from the current unilateral sanctions.

He also reiterated his country's support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Spain's determination to further deepen ties with Iran.
