Iran blocked enemy’s path to war: IRGC

Press TV - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s chief commander hails Iran’s significant progress in the defense sector, saying the country has effectively deterred the enemy from waging war on it.

“In the military sphere, we have completely blocked the enemy’s path, and reversed the balance (in our favor),” Major General Hossein Salami said, speaking at the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters in Tehran on Wednesday.

“Under the current circumstances, it is [actually] the enemies, who are wary whether a war would break out,” Salami noted. “That anxiety is visible in their practical and tactical attitude.”

A while ago, some would consider war to be inevitable if Iran refused to negotiate, but the tables turned and now the enemy trembles at even the thought of a potential military conflict with the Islamic Republic, he added.

The victory was iterated on the political arena, he said. He cited Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s meeting with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei last month — which came at a time of heightened US-led attempts at demonizing Iran in the eyes of the international community.

Salami referred to the meeting as “the point, where the enemy suffered a heavy political defeat,” adding, “Following the meeting, the status of our political power rose in the world and the issue of Iran’s isolation was dismissed as an invalid pursuit.”

He echoed remarks in May by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who had described the confrontation between Iran and the US as a clash of will powers.

“A nation stays out of harm’s way as long as it refuses to subjugate itself to the enemy’s will,” Salami said.

The Islamic Republic, however, has unraveled the enemy’s strategy of trying to impose its will on the Iranian nation, the commander stated. The Islamic Republic has also managed to shatter the illusion of grandeur that Washington had created of itself across the international public opinion.

The United States has engaged in significant regional military buildup, including by sending an aircraft carrier, a bomber taskforce, an assault ship, and around 1,500 additional forces to the Middle East.

President Donald Trump and other US officials have, however, recurrently disowned any intention to engage in warfare with Iran, claiming that the American equipment and troops are actually meant to prevent one.

Salami further said the enemy had now concentrated on economic war against Iran, trying to use instruments of international economic pressure against the country.

The US left a nuclear deal with Iran and other countries last May, and then reinstated the sanctions that had been lifted by the accord. Washington has also threatened third countries with “secondary sanctions” if they kept up their trade with Iran, including in oil, despite the American bans.

The commander, however, asserted that the Islamic Republic is obliged to formulate ways to confront the enemy in the context of all scenarios.
