Iranian, Iraqi delegations discuss Arvad River dredging

IRNA A joint meeting on coordination for dredging the Iranian-Iraqi border river was convened on Sunday to discuss technical details of the joint project.

The joint meeting of Iranian and Iraqi delegation was held in line with agreements reached during the visits of the two countries' senior officials.

senior Iranian and Iraqi officials, including presidents and foreign ministers, exchanged visits over the past months and discussed bilateral issues within the framework of the two countries border treaty and good neighborly relations (1975) as well as the additional protocols.

The latest meeting which was held Sunday in the southern Iranian city of Khorramshahr was presided by Iran's Foreign Ministry Deputy for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Baqerpoor, and the senior advisor of Iraqi foreign minister.

Baqerpoor said that the dredging project will begin when the holy month of Ramadan ends (June 4).

Arvand Rud (Arvand River), also known as Shat al-Arab in Arabic, is one of the border rivers between Iran and Iraq which is formed when three rivers of Tigris and Euphrates in Iraq and Karoon on the Iranian side.
