Targeting JCPOA’s terms; new objective of White House

IRNA - The hardline team of US President Donald Trump, who has been struggling in recent years to exert maximum pressure on Tehran with a variety of instruments, is now targeting the text of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which has faced the severe criticism of the European allies and other members of the agreement.

Everyday the new page is opened on the US anti-Iranian measures and the leaders of the White House, one day they target Iran's economy and oil, one day the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps and the P5 +1; the agreement that changed to 4+1 after the US withdrawal, but is still breathing.

President Hassan Rouhani, at the ceremony on Saturday to mark the teacher's Day, devoted part of his speech to the US sanctions and its goals in dealing with Iran.

Referring to frequent US violations of agreements and deals, including the lack of adherence to the JCPOA, elaborated on the objectives of the White House, and, 'The ultimate goal of the United States is the Islamic Republic of Iran not to be a great, independent and influential role in the region and the world, the US does not Tolerate such a Iran.

After failing to get Tehran out of the nuclear deal, Trump eventually decided to withdraw the US from the agreement, but this does not mean that he closes his eyes on a deal that is acting as the biggest barrier to the US avarices and pressure. So, recently, we have been Witnessing that Trump and his colleagues are questioning various articles in the hope that Tehran will eventually decide to abandon this agreement.

After not extending exemptions for major Iranian oil buyers, the United States has targeted the peaceful nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran; a program which the IAEA has consistently affirmed in recent years.

As a previous member of the JCPOA, the US government has now begun seeking to refrain from extending some terms of this nuclear deal, which was approved by the Democratic government after two years of negotiations.

On Saturday, AFP reported on Trump's new sanctions targeting Iran that includes peaceful nuclear activities of Iran. The United States has renewed Iran's nuclear-related exemptions for the European Union, China and Russia, but has avoided extending the heavy water transfer to Oman and the exchange of enriched uranium with yellow cake; an illegal move that follows the maximum pressure on Iran.

At the same time, Iran is allowed to enrich and maintain 300 kg of the 3.67% enriched uranium and also maintain 130 tons of heavy water and can sell its surplus on global markets. As of the same month that JCPOA was launched (December 2015), nuclear exchanges began between Iran and other countries.

For example, in the same month, 197 tons of yellow cakes entered Iran from Russia and Kazakhstan, and Tehran delivered 11 tons of enriched uranium to Moscow.

Nuclear transactions and exchanges continued in the coming years, but Iran's joining the few enriched uranium exporting countries is not the subject Trump can accept. The White House has therefore sought to counter the enrichment and accumulation of uranium and its exchange with yellow cake; a demand that explicitly violates the text of the JCPOA, and has prompted other members of the nuclear deal to react.

Following this targeted campaign by Trump, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called the Iranian nuclear sanctions illegitimate and insisted that the Kremlin will not abide by it. In addition to Russia, at the same time, one of the most severe reactions was on the part of the European Union and foreign ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, which, despite America's lack of adherence to JCPOA action, are still struggling to save it.

In a statement issued by EU chief foreign policy Federico Mogherini and the foreign ministers of EU troika, there is a resenting concern about the recent Trump action, but along with this political support, Brussels seems to be taking a practical step and it's an increase in its share of the financing of the INSTEX. Last month, the union announced that it had set up a company with a capital of EUR 3,000 in France in order to implement the financial mechanism with France.

In January, the Union announced that it had launched a company with a capital of EUR 3,000 in France in order to implement the financial mechanism with Iran.

As noted, this is not the first time that Trump violates the terms of JCPOA and tries to challenge the nuclear deal as one of the greatest achievements of the Democrats. Earlier, officials of the country had been targeting the “sunset provisions” as a scary provisions for the enemies, according to which nuclear restrictions on Iran would end by 2025, and Iran's nuclear activities would return to normal.
