IRNA – The subject of prisoner exchange between Iran and the US is not a new issue, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.
The issue of prisoner swap between Iran and the US is not a new issue and it has been under discussion at high levels from long time ago, Abbas Mousavi added.
He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
The official also said that Iran’s judiciary power is independent and has the final say in case of prisoners.
Earlier, Iran’s Judiciary power Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Esmaili has said that the Judiciary is ready for cooperation with other branches of power in case of prisoners swap.
There have been no new talks between Iran and the US on exchange of prisoners, the official added.
In April 2019, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif offered publicly to negotiate a prisoner exchange with the United States, saying he had been authorized to conduct such talks.
