Iran ranks sixth in world mushroom production

IRNA - The director of the Mushroom Growers Association said that Iran, with an annual production of about 150,000 tons of edible mushrooms, is the sixth largest producer of mushroom in the world.

Mohammad Hassan Afshar announced on Wednesday launching of a fund to collect and buy surplus mushrooms in the country, adding that the purchased products will be processed and get out of consumed cycle.

The head of the Mushroom Growers Association emphasized the export of edible Mushroom, saying that this year, with the realization of the price of the currency, the export of this product boomed, and now an average of 170 tons of mushroom are exported monthly.

He said that seven percent of the total exports of this sector are sent to Iraq and the rest to the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan with about $1.8 per kilogram, while the global price per kilogram of this product is $2.5.
