OIC to establish UNRWA fund

IRNA – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has passed an enactment to provide sustainable budget for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

According to UAE news agency, OIC Secretary General Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen announced that the fund will be established.

He urged international community to be committed to its responsibilities are regarding Palestine and Palestinian refugees.

Meanwhile, earlier Commissioner-General of UNRWA Pierre Krähenbühl in a Twitter message wrote ‘Very grateful to H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of UAE for our dialogue in margins of #OICCFM46 in Abu Dhabi. Thanked FM for UAE’s outstanding and consistent support to @UNRWA, with a particular focus on our education work. Vital partnership.’

‘In Abu Dhabi declaration, OIC member states “Confirm our commitment to support UNRWA, and invite international community to fulfill its commitments regarding Palestinian issue and Palestinian refugees.” Recognition of work tirelessly carried out by @UNRWA staff highly valued,’ he said in a separate message.

UNRWA is a relief and human development agency which supports more than 5 million registered Palestinian refugees.
