Iranian official: Efforts underway to address economic woes

Tasnim Head of Irans Plan and Budget Organization Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said efforts are underway to deal with the tough conditions caused by the cruel US sanctions.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a gathering of traffic police officers in Tehran on Saturday, Nobakht said the US economic sanctions against Iran and its move to wage an unequal inhumane war on the Islamic Republic triggered difficult conditions in Iran.

Following the US governments decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and re-impose cruel sanctions against Iran, the topic of economic indices in Iran attracted attention, he noted.

Efforts are underway to weather the tough conditions in cooperation with one another, to meet the societys demands and to move towards development, Nobakht added.

Tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since US President Donald Trump walked away from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May 2018 and re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

US officials have repeatedly claimed that they aim to cut Irans oil exports to zero.

Following the US exit from the nuclear deal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.

He said the US policy is to levy maximum economic pressure on the country.

The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect in November 2018.
